Using the DaVinci system instead of traditional surgeries

A hysterectomy used to be an invasive procedure that required extensive surgery and recovery. However, thanks to continued advances in surgical care and technology, patients are now able to undergo procedures such as this with faster healing and recovery. The hysterectomy is often used in removing the uterus, and may also include removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries depending on the reason for pursuing surgery. At Columbus Women’s Care, we understand how stressful a serious operation can be, and we offer the tools to provide a less invasive process. This includes the use of the DaVinci surgical system.

What is the DaVinci surgical system?

Instead of an invasive surgery such as those performed in the past, hysterectomies performed with the DaVinci surgical system are minimally invasive while also allowing for faster healing and recovery. This is because the DaVinci surgical system is a robotic method that is performed by a doctor using a laparoscope, or small camera, that projects images onto a video screen. The doctor then uses a robotic device that can perform the removal of the uterus through  just a few small incisions or a single incision around the belly button area. This ensures less scarring as well as quick recovery following the procedure. In addition to being less invasive, the robotic nature of the DaVinci surgical system also ensures precision work is completed.

Who is a candidate for surgery via the DaVinci surgical system?

All patients are offered the opportunity to undergo a hysterectomy using the DaVinci surgical system, though not all health insurance companies offer coverage. Our front office team can help you decide the type of surgery you will benefit from and that your insurance plan covers.
