Why Are Prenatal Visits Important?

Fortunately, the team at Columbus Women’s Care can guide you through this journey to motherhood. With routine prenatal visits with our team in Canal Winchester, OH, you can ensure your health and your baby’s development are right on track for a healthy pregnancy and delivery. But why are prenatal visits so important?

There are several reasons why you should visit a doctor during your pregnancy:

  • Provides comprehensive care to ensure the health and well-being of both you and your baby
  • The doctor can assess your overall health and monitor changes in your baby’s development
  • Regular evaluations to look for potential complications or risks, including gestational diabetes or high blood pressure
  • Discussions about enjoying a balanced, healthy diet to ensure you are meeting your and your child’s nutritional needs
  • Address concerns you might have about labor and delivery and the creation of a birth plan
  • Measurements of you and the baby to ensure proper development

What Happens at a Typical Prenatal Appointment?

During your visit, you can expect to have your blood pressure taken, have your doctor review any completed lab work or imaging scans, and discuss any symptoms you may be experiencing. You will also receive a comprehensive physical exam to ensure the health of both you and the baby. Your doctor may also ask about diet and lifestyle changes to help ensure a healthy pregnancy.

What Happens if I Am Considered a High-risk Pregnancy?

There are many reasons why our team may determine you have a high-risk pregnancy. If this is the case for you, your doctor will likely recommend more frequent visits and specialized tests to monitor both your health and the baby’s development.
