Collagen is the key to firm, tight, young-looking skin. The problem is every year after we have our 20th birthday our bodies produce one additional percentage point less collagen. Do the math. At 50, our body is producing about a third less collagen than in our youth. That’s why our skin sags, loosens, and develops lines, wrinkles, and creases.
Many skin tightening treatments aim to boost collagen production. You’ve heard of laser skin tightening, but it can involve some recovery and there is the danger of harming the surface skin. At Columbus Women’s Care, we prefer a better method for skin tightening that uses radiofrequency energy instead of laser light energy.
It’s called TempSure Envi, and our patients love their results achieved comfortably without any downtime.
What is Laser Skin Tightening?
Laser skin tightening is a non-surgical treatment that reverses signs of aging. Using heat on underlying layers of skin, laser skin tightening stimulates collagen growth for healthier and younger looking skin. This comfortable procedure is most commonly performed on the face and neck as patients want to target fine lines and wrinkles.

What Is TempSure Envi?
With TempSure Envi, the handpiece is moved in a circular pattern across the treatment area. The radiofrequency energy harmlessly penetrates the skin’s outer layer, the epidermis, and enters the dermis layer. There it converts to heat, and this triggers the production of new collagen, which is necessary for firmer, thicker, healthier skin.
Treatment is non-invasive and safe for all skin types, as well as, all levels of sun exposure.
Where Can TempSure Envi Tighten My Skin?
Most of our patients from Columbus and the surrounding areas love TempSure Envi’s skin tightening on the face, neck, and décolletage. Those are the main areas of focus, although it can be used anywhere on the body.
How Does RF Skin Tightening Work?
During your session, the TempSure Envi handpiece is moved across the treatment area in a circular motion. This evenly distributes the RF energy to the area. This energy easily penetrates the outer epidermis and enters the skin’s second layer, the dermis. As it does so, the subtle resistance encountered makes the RF energy convert to heat. The TempSure Envi system software continually monitors the temperature to maintain the optimum number to trigger the necessary response. When the body senses heat in the dermis layer, it assumes there has been a wound. It answers this alarm with a wound-healing response to heal the perceived wound (even though there has been no actual injury of any sort, only the application of heat). This response is to remodel the existing collagen in the area, which instantly firms the area, and then to initiate a long-term increase in new collagen production. This increase lasts for months, and it adds new collagen fibers throughout the treated areas. This firms the skin and lessens the appearance of or removes fine lines and wrinkles.
The TempSure Envi Treatment in Columbus, OH
The whole procedure takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area. First, one of our experienced providers applies a gel to the skin. Then, we will move the device in small circles on the skin. Patients typically experience a gentle warming sensation in the treatment area. Once the entire area is covered patients can leave the office and resume their normal activities. There can be a slight redness to the area which should subside soon after treatment.
How Long Does A TempSure Envi Treatment Take?
Treatments last about 30-60 minutes, depending upon the area or areas being treated. You can get right back to your normal activities, making TempSure Envi a perfect lunchtime treatment.
Why Is Radiofrequency Energy Better Than Laser Energy For Skin Tightening?
As mentioned above, TempSure Envi uses radiofrequency energy rather than laser energy to trigger the skin’s collagen response. The problem with laser energy is epidermis. For skin rejuvenation, the epidermis has no role. The epidermis comes into play when removing age spots and areas of hyperpigmentation, but not skin rejuvenation. That has to happen in the dermis layer beneath the epidermis. When the laser energy is applied to the epidermis with the intention of penetrating it, there is a danger of the light energy burning the outer skin. To lessen that risk, less energy is delivered, meaning less energy also makes it into the dermis.
Radiofrequency energy much more efficiently penetrates the epidermis and enters the dermis. This triggers the sought-after wound-healing response. Without the same risk of burning the skin, more RF energy can be delivered, and this boosts the collagen production even more.
How Many Skin Tightening Treatments Do I Need?
Every patient is different therefore the ideal number of treatments will vary. However, we do recommend a series of treatments. This will ensure that collagen growth is continuing at the same rate. Treatment sessions can be done at any time of year so we can spread sessions apart for your convenience. During your consultation, our providers will work with you to develop a plan that fits your skin.

When Will I See Results With TempSure Envi?
You will see some initial tightening of the skin across the treated areas. This is due to the initial collagen remodeling as the body first reacts to the RF energy. But the real results begin in 7-10 days, as the body begins the production of new collagen to “heal” the perceived wounds, although there aren’t any wounds. This process continues for months.
Is A TempSure Envi Treatment Painful?
These are comfortable treatments. Patients don’t need topical numbing cream beforehand, and there isn’t any recovery or downtime after. You’ll sense a feeling of warmth across the treatment areas, but that’s it.
